Halcyon's Parent Community
The Halcyon Parent Community (HPC) are extremely active in supporting the school. They host or cater for, a wide variety of Halcyon’s large events and social outings. Any new families are invited to join the HPC and get involved in the fun activities. See you at the parent mixers!
Promoting cross-cultural awareness amongst our teachers, staff, students and parents is the theme of International Night. HPC organises an event where countries are represented by tables with flags, information, lots of food samplings and, in some cases, cultural attire. Attendees are free to roam as they wish, exploring different cultures and tasting the culinary delights.
Class Representatives Meetings with Director
Throughout the year, parent representatives from each grade level meet with Barry Mansfield, the Director, and the Senior Leadership Team. The class representatives gather feedback from the parents of the grade level they are representing which is presented at the meeting on an agenda. The meeting summary is then distributed back to each grade via the representatives.
Model United Nations Conference
The HPC organised breakfast for the annual MUN conference, hosted at Halcyon’s Stern Hall, has become the thing of legend. Massive amounts of fruit, pastries, juices, and other assorted treats are brought to school by the parents of Halcyon to feed the 100+ students from Greater London who come to our campus for the two-day conference.
Grade 10 Personal Project Exhibition and Grade 10 IBMYP Celebration
The HPC provides assorted treats and sandwiches to help recognise the accomplishments of the students. In addition, a celebratory cake is presented for all Grade 10 MYP Celebration guests including graduates, family members, as well as other Halcyon students who attend the ceremony.
Grade 12 IBDP graduates graduation gift and other departing students
An individually inscribed bracelet was presented to each member of Halcyon’s first-ever graduating Diploma Programme students. HPC also funded sponsored educational opportunities for a child through Oxfam’s education initiative on behalf of each departing student.
Over 150 assorted ice cream bars and ice lollies are provided to cool off the entire Halcyon student body as they compete in the annual Halcyon sports day.
Teacher and Staff End of Year Appreciation Tea
The HPC organises a teacher tea, complete with scones, jam, clotted cream and other pastries. Its HPC’s way of recognising the time and effort spent by the staff at Halcyon. In addition, the HPC collects “thank you” cards generated by the students in which the students choose teachers to write to and thank for their efforts throughout the year. Finally, through money collected from the entire parent community, the HPC presents an individual gift to the staff members of Halcyon.
Auction / Quiz Night
A fundraising event like no other! HPC coordinated an online auction culminating in a student-led quiz and dinner evening! The £85,000 raised in 2018 has gone towards our second-floor space renovation. This year, we will be supporting our new Bursary Programme, with the aim to raise £100,000! See the website for more information.
The HPC also host many social trips throughout the year. Mostly based around discovering more about London with tours and attraction visits.
Kew Gardens Visit
Halcyon parents enjoyed a lovely sunny day at Kew Gardens taking in the fabulous orchid display and at lunch after.
