Halcyon's 2nd annual World Book Day celebrations were held on Thursday 5 March. With tables adorned with literary-inspired dishes (including a Hogwarts Train Cake from Harry Potter and Pancake Station from The Maze Runner), students settled in for a morning of celebration.
The whole school assembly, run by Halcyon's Senior Book Club, saw Halcyon's community battle it out in a literary Kahoot! following which students and teachers enjoyed a 45 minute read-a-thon over plates of delicious goodies.
The message taken away from today was summed up in two speeches given during the morning's events: "We all read for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, it's about having the desire to know more, learn more, and experience more. Books can, and will, do this for you."
“It was wonderful to see students working together to make this day possible. From the Book Club members who wrote individual tags for the literary dishes to the students who helped set up the Hall, I believe the community spirit of Halcyon shone today. We are very lucky to have a firm culture of reading in our school, so today gave us all an opportunity to highlight and embrace that.”
