Remote Learning at Halcyon

What our parents are saying

School Notice: Friday 13 March 2020 – Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The School Board and School Leadership have made the decision that, from Monday 16 March, Halcyon will move our curriculum to an online, remote learning, platform. This means that there will be no classroom lessons in school until further notice.

Our digitally integrated curriculum gives us a significant advantage in the current climate. Our students’ digital dexterity and our teachers’ skill and experience in delivering learning in a digital environment mean we are uniquely well-equipped to make this transition. It is an opportunity to show leadership and purpose, and to continue to deliver quality teaching and learning.

The school building is closed, however our office remains open for enquiries, online admissions appointments, emails and phone calls.

Halcyon provides a state-of-the-art remote learning programme, inspiring and engaging students every day. Read what our parents are saying about us:

“Having 3 children, in 3 different schools, makes us well placed to compare – and you are head and shoulders above the rest with your organisation and professionalism.”

“What an outstanding team you all are. Thank you all again for sorting such amazing support for our children’s education in such a quick and professional manner.”
“I fully support your decision to move to remote learning. Thank you for taking a strong leadership position on this.”
“With much of our learning platforms moving online at Universities, this experience will be a valuable learning experience not only for the students but also the teachers and administrators at Halcyon, preparing them well for future learning models.”
“I am super impressed with how smooth this was – well done to the team!”
“Well done for keeping the show on the road in these testing times. Exceptional response from Halcyon to the adversity in front of us, and thank you for the regular communications. Amazing job that you are dong with our children.”
“We are very impressed with what Halcyon and the team has been able to roll out in such a short time frame. Our children were 100% focused and engaged all day today. Well done!”
“I have been listening to my child after classes today, she was talking to the other girls, they all seemed very excited, engaged and cheerful. We all need a dose of your extreme resilience – a true testament to the strength of the Halcyon community in these unprecedented days!”
“We are so impressed with how Halcyon has transitioned to online learning so smoothly!”
“It is this sort of proactive learning approach that I’d expect from Halcyon and you have not disappointed.”

Our Mission

Education: From educe meaning “to draw out”.
To provide an exceptional education that draws out the unique potential of each student.

The Halcyon community emboldens and supports every learner to be an explorer, a risk-taker and a creative problem-solver. We embrace challenging questions and seek out purposeful, research-led answers.

To build this creative, curious and questioning culture, Halcyon’s IB curriculum is designed to promote self-directed learning and critical thinking. Our work is enriched by pioneering digital resources, fully integrated into our school practice.

Collaboration is at the core of our community of life-long learners. Learning together we build different perspectives as we understand ourselves in relation to others. This experience allows each of us to navigate the world successfully and shape who we want to be.

We intentionally create an environment that develops and encourages collaborative learning and teaching through the promotion of trust, mutual respect, and shared values and leadership.

Collaboration is present in our leadership approach, our learning spaces, our staff workshops, our coaching dialogue, and through the passion of student initiative and engagement.  Collaborative practice is supported by our pioneering wellbeing programme and our emphasis on restorative practice and fostering ownership, agency, voice, and belonging.

Halcyon understands that successful communities learn and create together, supported by a culture of shared values.

We are committed to creating an inclusive community that appreciates and respects each person. All are welcomed to contribute and develop a sense of agency and ownership of the school and its mission. Just as we wish all students to fulfil their unique potential, we actively nurture the same opportunities for growth for everyone in our community.

We also commit to participating in the wider community through service-learning and engaging constructively with wider social challenges.

Our story

Education was originally about nurturing the learner to take charge of their own learning and we want to recapture that approach – but with a modern touch.

Education should be about building a life-readying toolkit. Our students need to be flexible, resilient, intelligent collaborators who navigate with confidence in a global digital world.

We realised that we were looking for a school that was innovative, student-centred, academically broad, digitally integrated, existing in a global context, and gets students out in London (and further afield) to develop and utilise their skills at school and in the real world.

That’s Halcyon. Are you interested? We look forward to hearing from you!
