Mandarin made fun

Learning Mandarin can be difficult, but our enthusiastic Mandarin students are making it an interesting and stimulating learning experience.

Recently in our Mandarin classroom, we have used Lego bricks to build Chinese characters. Thanks to the feature of Chinese writing, the components of each character more or less fit in a square block. This feature fits in perfectly with the design of Lego and through building the characters, students were able to reflect on how each component of the writing is positioned and structured.

We have also used traditional Chinese puppets to create some interesting role-play. Grade 8 students worked in pairs to write up scripts of conversation between doctor and patient as the revision activity of the current unit. They’ve produced some really lovely work!
